Karen DeTemple is a dynamic fundraiser with over 25 years of experience and a proven track record of success in all aspects of fundraising on a national, regional and local level working with arts, social service and other forward-thinking organizations. She has held senior fundraising positions in-house as well as worked with non-profit clients for the past 13 years as a consultant. Her expertise includes securing funding, strategic planning, influential relationship building, activating and engaging leadership and partnerships, engaging the next generation of donors, aligning, activating and engaging key stakeholders, and managing all aspects of the strategic execution.
Since 2005 Karen has been the President of Karen DeTemple Consulting based in Boston where she has focused on fundraising, strategic planning and fundraising events for numerous high level clients including AIDS Action Committee’s ARTcetera biennial art auction, deCordova Sculpture Park and Museum, Massachusetts College of Art and Design, Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, and Planned Parenthood League of Massachusetts, among others.
During this time she also co-founded and launched The Art of Change with Nicole Polletta. A consultancy that focuses on creative fundraising and audience development for the international art world.
Prior to consulting and for 15 years, Karen worked for some of the nation’s most esteemed cultural institutions including the Institute of Contemporary Art, Boston; the Exploratorium, San Francisco; The Joffrey Ballet, Chicago; the Museum of Contemporary Art, Chicago; The Museum of Fine Arts, Houston; and The Phillips Collection, Washington, D.C.
Karen has spoken about her work at the Social Innovation Forum and the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum. She graduated from DePauw University in Greencastle, Indiana with a Bachelor’s Degree in Communications and Art History. In addition to her passion for the arts and culture, Karen is also a yoga teacher who teaches weekly public and private classes in the Boston area and leads yoga retreats around the world.
